no matter what ammenities are offered downtown two things must be accomplished in any revitilization:

1) more free parking. parking downtown is costly and hard to navigate. making it more accessible to park our vehicles downtown would go a long way.

2) safety, safety, safety. like it or not, downtown is not a place people like to be after 5pm. There's safety in numbers during the day, but as the work day ends, downtown is not perceived as the safest part of the city. making people feel safe downtown is a must if you want them to go there.

actually serious crimes are very rare in the central business district. I think downtown is beginning to develop a safe reputation. one examplee is the Southside project. during the 1980s the neigborhood was plauges with drugs and prositution. That neighborhood has been cleaned up and new residential units are selling quickly to people from all walks of life. I think downtown is becoming a safer place through the process of revitalization. When people begin to come downtown more often, they will see that we have a clean and safe downtown.

During business hours, there is a cost to much of the parking downtown and I must admit, its a challenge finding parking. This is a problem for downtowns of urban cities all across America. However, after business hours and on weekends, parking is plentiful and free.

Welcome Cheva84! The center-city park plan is still in place and is currently being designed. We should hear something after the opening of the ballpark.

Last summer, did ya'll ever go to the Beach Music Festivals every Thursday night. I went to them all and had a great time doing so. These events raised a good amount of money for charity, but events and festivities like these bring people dowtown. More festivities like these will bring people dowtown and they will go eat before or after in the restaurants and they will see that downtown is revitalizing and word of mouth is very powerful. What other events do ya'll think will bring a lot of people downtown?
